Q1.
What makes the EzGrip® Pen different from ordinary pens?
A.
The EzGrip® Pen needs only one finger for downward writing pressure, and requires only the slightest touch to hold and use. If that one finger tires or you wish to alter your position, you can change fingers at any time.
There are actually four or more ways of using the pen. It can be used with any one finger and even that middle finger knuckle that's tucked-under - you know - the one that usually develops a side callus from over-squeezing. Using the knuckle takes all the pressure off the fingers.
(back to top)How does it work -- using only one finger?
A.
The EzGrip® Pen has a very comfortable finger saddle or finger rest used as the downward pressure surface. You might even consider it a "lounge chair" for fingers. It provides both an unusually comfortable contour fit and support. (back to top)
What about the other two fingers?
A.
Unlike ordinary pens, the other fingers surround the EzGrip® pen on specially designed resting shoulders. Because of its unique shape, there's no need to squeeze, as you now do, to hold it in position. Since only one finger is needed for downward pressure, the other two fingers hold on loosely. They just go along for the ride and help guide the pen. The nice part is that it won't slip out of your fingers like an ordinary pen will when held loosely.
Try holding your own pen very loosely when writing with it. It will slip out of your fingers. The EzGrip® Pen won't! (back to top)I was taught to use a tripod finger position-- to squeeze with three fingers and push down. Isn't this the right way?
A.
Forget it! There's more power in one finger tip, than in squeezing sideways and pushing down with three. (back to top)
What's the value of all this? And, what if I have arthritis or cramping?
A.
It makes sense. If you're only using a single finger for downward writing pressure and you hold very lightly without constantly squeezing , you won't get writers' cramp. Your muscles don't tighten, clamp or freeze up. Those same muscles and tendons just aren't needed or used with the EzGrip®.
If you already have muscle aches, Arthritis, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Bursitis, Tendonitis - any Itis - or even if your hand is broken and in a splint, you can still use the EzGrip® because of the single finger use. And more importantly, the pain mechanisms up the arm are disconnected. (See: Ouch Zones) These usually involve tendons, muscles and nerves running the full length of the arm. You have a choice of fingers and alternate ways to hold and use the pen. (back to top)I have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and have hand and arm pain when writing. The pain travels, sometimes to my shoulder. Will I be able to use your pen?
A.
Easily! (not an exaggeration) By not having to squeeze or "pinch-grip" the EzGrip® Pen, you won't have radiating pain traveling from your hand and up your arm. The pain mechanisms are disconnected. (See: Ouch Zones) You use direct downward finger pressure only. No wasted effort. Now, you'll have an opportunity to use whichever finger makes better sense for you. It works for persons with Arthritis or other tenderness in the hand, as well.
Ahh, Finally! ...What having Choice can do... (back to top)Q7.
A.
What about left-handers?Many lefties have reported the pen is the most comfortable they've ever experienced.
Q8.Can children use these as well?
A.
The grip used on pencils, more than on a pen, is being used successfully with younger children 6-14 by school OT's, Nurses and Teachers. In many cases, it allows children with yet undeveloped motor skills and those with larger hands/fingers to gain more control over the writing instrument. Children with learning disabilities also use the grip very successfully. (Children prize the new neat shape.) It has been reported to help undo "Thumb/Finger Wrap," and "Lefty Slant," in some cases, resolving to a more comfortable position. The grips are non-toxic, and non-allergenic. They contain no latex. Note: We request feedback from Parents, Teachers, School OT's and Nurses - positive or negative. The EzGrip® is considered a valued tool in their arsenal. (back to top)
Can the grips be used on small tools instead of pens? I use a modeling knife for cutting and wood carving.A.
Yes! The EzGrip® will slip over small tools such as modeling knives, scalpels, probes, picks, scrapers, as well as calligraphy pens, and more. The grips are currently used in the microelectronics industry with these tools for small parts assembly and maintenance. The Healthcare field has been using them for years. They have some desirable properties - sterilizable - chemical safe - low ESD - dissipates static electricity, so they won't zap microchips - and minimal Shedding properties.* (But, that's probably more than you wanted to know. (back to top)
*Note: most grip formulations - this can vary and must be independently testedQ10.Can persons with a mild tremor use the EzGrip
® Pen?A.
Yes! We were surprised and delighted. It's been found that the shape of the EzGrip® - rather than the sheer weight of a heavier pen - is very useful in steadying the hand.
We believe the focus of pressure on the one finger helps steady out the tremor.
(back to top)I have long nails. Will they get in the way?
A.
No! In fact it's easier to use. Only the finger rests on the comfort ledge. Long nails - any length - are clear of the ledge and free to do what long nails want to do. (back to top)
How long will it take for me to adapt to the EzGrip®?
A.
Initially it takes only seconds to a few minutes. Further experimentation usually results in the writing positions that are just right for the way you want to write. Now that's a novel idea--the way YOU want to write... After a week, most people hesitate to go back to ordinary pens. (A slight exaggeration, of course. Can be after only a day.)
aside, going back to their usual pen, then returning to the EzGrip® for relief. A great testimonial to the products!
We have reported cases of persons setting the EzGrip®
(back to top) 13Are there any problems using the pen?
A.
Only one problem: EzGrip® users have to learn to lighten up! They can! Pens have always required a pinch grip; that's
the problem. You do it automatically - that muscle-memory thing. Undoing the squeezing, practiced over so many years, has to be a conscious effort. You won't regret it.

What if I alternately have finger, wrist and hand problems?A.
Doesn't matter. As long as you have a need to write, the Ezgrip® can adapt to your needs. You will always be able to position your fingers and hand in a way more comfortable for your use.
(back to top)Q15.
I paid a lot for my pen and it's got great ink. Why should I use the EzGripA.
There's a tendency to over-squeeze when doing lots of writing regardless of a pens great ink supply, its space-age design, its engineered tip or the latest technological advance in rubber coating -- they do feel good though. The fact is, pens promote
S Q U E E Z I N G
Not ours! You can actually undo all that squeezing with our pen. It might take a conscious effort at first to undo all those years of hurt, BUT YOU CAN!!! It's a pen that can bring you into the real digital age. Pick a finger--any finger!
